Fishermen on the Clyde
These images were taken for the Clyde Fisheries Development Project, an initiative to encourage more sustainable fishing practices on the Clyde. I went out with the scallop divers, trawler and creeler men to take portraits of them at work. The fishing industry in Scotland has been in decline for a long time now and I was shocked by how much perfectly good bycatch was being thrown overboard. The fishermen themselves couldn’t have been friendlier and although I joined them on calm summer waters, I was still impressed by the tough life they lead in a hostile environment. My favorite shot was captured by swimming round one of the boats in the middle of the Clyde, with several thousand pounds of camera held precariously above the waves.
